Join me on my pre-medicine journey as we talk about what it takes to become a doctor. We will talk about academic requirements, training, the different types of doctors and medical specialties. In this course we will dive into neurology by dissecting into the brain's mysteries and fun facts. Trough discussion, students will learn what a brain smells like, how does it feel, what a brain freeze is, different brain exercises and much more. Each student will be provided with a fun brain teaser to print or copy onto a paper. Part one will be solved as a team during class and the second part to be finished at each student's pace.
Learning Goals
Each student will be introduced to the career of neurology where they will learn about what it takes to become a neurologist and what neurologists do on the job. Students will learn about the lobes of the brain; frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe and occipital lobe and what their main functions are. After learning about the anatomical structures of the brain and their main role, students will learn interesting facts with our brain!
Trough dialog, students will learn 25 mind blowing facts about their brain power.
We will briefly talk about Phineas Gage, how he survived a brain injury in 1823, how his personality changed and what that teaches us about the different areas of the brain.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello my name is Arely, I live in Michigan with my lovely dog Bella. I have 7 years of teaching experience with 3 being in a classroom setting and 2 as an online teacher.
I am a native Spanish speaker with a dual bachelor's degree in Spanish - English translation and entrepreneurship that enjoys teaching Spanish classes. As a pre-med and an honor student my favorite recent classes have been anatomy & biology, organic chemistry, microbiology, and cell & molecular biology, all of which I tutor.
During my first teaching job as a Spanish teacher to K-8th graders I learned how to integrate STEAM in my lectures. This continues to be my favorite way of teaching and tutoring tough concepts in a simplified way to students.
Not many people know that my first summer job after high school was as a Disneyland character.
