Ladies and Gentlemen.....It's SHOWTIME! Draw back the curtain and dazzle the audience with high kicks, turns, and famous jazz hands. Taught to a variety of Broadway show tune styles, this class will introduce future Broadway stars to dances of the Great White Way. No prior experience required. Classes will begin with a fun stretching and high energy warm up routine. We will work on important techniques from Rockette-style kicks, to Fosse gestures, to show-stopping leaps. Then, dancers will be...
Students will gain flexibility, balance, dance technique, knowledge of the stage, and memorization of choreography.
I am a trained dancer with experience holding classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, theater, and hip hop. I studied and trained my whole life as a dancer including both Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. I danced with companies and in shows in New York City. I have also taught dance at schools in New York City, abroad in other countries. I hold both personal and virtual dance and movement classes with the company I created in my area. I ran the dance department at a day rehabilitation facility for special needs adults and at a school for the blind. What is my philosophy behind teaching dance? Dance is an art form. It is a creation of movement used to tell a story. My classes are constructed with the aim of building the student's confidence and providing a safe space for their own exploration. Classes are meant to be challenging, but very fun!
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students are more than welcome to dress up for class, as long as clothing is loosely fitted and does not have anything a child could trip over. Please make sure your child takes the class in an open area where they will not accidentally kick something or put themselves in danger. Ideally, the space would not be slippery, but if it is a slippery surface, it is recommended to use non-stick socks or shoes. Parents and guardians should remain nearby to assist and prevent accidents. Children are free to dress up in prince and princess clothing, but please make sure the attire is loosely fitting. Having a water bottle nearby is ideal. If class is taken during warmer months, it is ideal to have an air conditioner or fan running to prevent overheating.
