US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Pounce into Furry Friends ABCs & 123s—where pets and learning paws-itively shine! In 30 minutes, your preschooler or kindergartner will count kitty whiskers, read pet-inspired words, and learn pet care with songs, games, and giggle-filled fun. Tail-or-made for animal lovers eager to grow their early reading and math skills. No pets required—just a big imagination! Week 1: Puppy DayCare Theme: Dogs Welcome (5 min): Sing “BINGO” (the dog song) with claps or barks. Skill Focus (10 min): Counting—Count dog bones/treats/toys. Practice 1-5 or 1-10 based on level. Pet Care (10 min): “Feed and Care for the Puppy”—giving a dog food and water, walk, and train the dog, play fetch, discuss what dogs eat (kibble, water). Introduce words: dog, pup, bark, pet, toy, walk, sit, stay. Wrap-Up (5 min): Share one thing they’d feed a puppy, review puppy care, sing a quick “Goodbye, Puppy” song. Week 2: Kitty Cat Club Theme: Cats Welcome (5 min): Sing “Soft Kitty” (from Big Bang Theory) with meows. Skill Focus (10 min): Words—Introduce words with flashcards and a cat puppet: cat, bed, paws, nap, play, meow. Counting game, count whiskers and paws. Pet Care (10 min): “Brush the Cat”—stuffed animal, show brushing motions, talk about grooming, and litter box care. Tip Cats love playing in boxes. Count the cats in the boxes. Wrap-Up (5 min): Say “meow” and one word they learned. Discuss 3 fun cat facts and circle your favorite cat. Wave goodbye. Week 3: Fishy Friends Theme: Fish Welcome (5 min): Sing “Slippery Fish” with hand motions. Skill Focus (10 min): Early Reading—Match fish pictures to words (e.g., “fish,” “swim”) using a simple chart. Pet Care (10 min): “Clean the Tank”—mime scooping water, feeding the fishies, and discuss keeping fish tanks clean. Count fish, plants, etc. Wrap-Up (5 min): Pretend to swim like a fish, share a favorite fish color. Week 4: Bunny Buddies Theme: Rabbits Welcome (5 min): Sing “Little Bunny Foo Foo” with hops. Skill Focus (10 min): Counting—Count bunny hops (kids hop 1-5 times), use fingers or a bunny cutout. Count bunnies. Search for and read the words bun, hop, hut, flop, fur, and cute. Pet Care (10 min): “Feed the Bunny”—offer pretend carrots, talk about veggies for rabbits, and how to keep their hutch clean. Wrap-Up (5 min): Hop and say one bunny care tip, sing goodbye. Week 5: Hamster Hangout Theme: Hamsters Welcome (5 min): Sing “Wheels on the Hamster Wheel” (to “Wheels on the Bus”). Skill Focus (10 min): Words—Learn “run,” “chew,” “pig” with a hamster story (read or tell a 1-min tale). Pet Care (10 min): “Build a Cage”— safe hamster home, discuss bedding and what goes inside of it. Count the objects. Introduce words: tube, wheel, spin, chew, pig, run. Wrap-Up (5 min): Squeak like a hamster, chew like a guinea pig. What do you think is a hamster's favorite exercise? Week 6: Pet Parade Finale Theme: All Pets Welcome (5 min): Sing “If I Had a Pet” (improv song—e.g., “If I had a dog, I’d bark all day”). Skill Focus (10 min): Early Reading—Review all words from prior weeks in a “Pet Book” (simple sentences like “Cat says meow”). Talk about pet adoptions. Pet Care (10 min): “Pet Parade”—kids pick a fave pet, mime caring for it (feed, brush, etc.). Wrap-Up (5 min): Parade around the screen, say goodbye with a big “Pet cheer!”

Supply List
Optional pet care worksheet to print prior to class. Learners are encouraged to bring a picture of their pets, and/or a favorite stuffed animal each week. We will pretend to take care of them together.

I have over 5 years as an Early Literacy Tutor and have also worked in schools as a Paraprofessional, mostly helping children develop early math and reading skills.
I am also a professional working illustrator. I am married with two kids, a dog, a cat, and an outdoor fish pond, home to a few frogs.
