This comprehensive and dynamic writing class is designed to challenge and inspire advanced writers through an exploration of a wide range of fiction subgenres, coupled with the integration of unique vocabulary and sensory detail. The course is structured around weekly themes, each introducing new mystery words and texture words to enrich the students' writing, encouraging them to weave these elements into their narratives seamlessly. Students will improve their writing by careful selection of ideas. Students will increase use of multi-syllable and content specific words in their writing. Students will write pieces of fiction. Students will write in a variety of subgenres (suspense, humor, persuasion).
I have been a middle and high school English Language Arts teacher for a decade. I also coached teams for Odyssey of the Mind and Lego First Robotics. I am very comfortable teaching students of varying backgrounds and abilities. I have two boys ages 8 and 10 who have severe ADHD.
Students will need a composition notebook and erasers from the Dollar Store. The scented erasers at the Dollar Store are the best.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
