During class, students will step into the shoes of a criminologist. We will use fun techniques to analyze our own fingerprints. We may even have a chance to compare our own fingerprints with others in the class. We will discuss the ways a criminologist can use fingerprinting to solve a crime. Hands-on learning is essential and we will certainly use our hands and fingers in this class as we look closely at all the curves, lines, and shapes made on our unique fingers. I have a degree in Criminology and Law from the University of Florida.
To participate in the two activities, learners will need a small amount of a white powdery substance (flour, powdered sugar, baby powder, or cornstarch). They will also need a piece of black paper (copy paper, construction paper, cardstock, etc.), a small bowl or plate, tape (packing tape or scotch tape), a small brush (paint or make-up), small amount of playdough, scratch paper, and a pencil.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using powder on our hands. Parental supervision may be required if you are concerned about any mess.
