Each week we will focus on a different aspect of fielding as well as hitting. The first 4 weeks will go over basic footwork, hand-eye coordination, and mechanics. After the first half we will then move to piecing it all together and working on positions and game like approaches. I plan to go over fielding at different positions, knowing where to throw the ball in different situations, and also little details such as mindset and being talkative. The weeks will go as followed: W1: (W) gripping...
Students will learn how to be game ready and be ready for the next level after taking this course. They will have better fundamentals and have many drills under their belt that are still used even at the highest level. Most importantly, students will find themselves, find a voice, find confidence and most importantly find a new love in this sport.
I am a former collegiate athlete and have 16 years of experience under my belt. I have done years of training and have helped many of my teams reach championship games and win titles. I have 2 years of coaching experience but many years of assisting softball camps for young girls. I also have 4 years of experience working at an elementary school as both a fitness leader and an instructional aide.
This is not your traditional homework. I do not expect students to complete physical assignments, however, I highly recommend they continue to practice skills and drills taught in class to keep progressing. Even 10-15 minutes a day working on any of the drills will greatly improve your skill level. To better track progress, it is very helpful to submit videos or pictures of the learners independent practice so I have a better idea of what they are struggling with or if their form is good.
Most of the drills can be done without equipment as we will be focusing more on basic fundamentals, but it is very helpful to have an age-appropriate softball, a bat, and a glove. Most of the hitting will be done on a tee but if you have someone available to help with side toss that works great! I understand the real heavy duty equipment is expensive so if you do not have your own bat, tee, or softball you can go to your nearest Walmart and they have a wiffle ball set for $12 as well as a tee for another $12.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
A learner's progress is assessed through informal assessments. I will assess their progress during class as well as if you send videos on your improvement.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
