In this interactive online summer camp, students will learn the basics of healthy eating and how smart food choices can lead to healthy and strong bodies. Students will also learn about the relationship between healthy eating and physical activity. The goal is to provide a fun and positive environment for students to discover ways to engage in physical activity and develop healthy eating habits during the summer break. The topics covered in this camp include basic nutrition facts and physical activity recommendations for youth and adolescents, and making healthy food choices in support of optimal health and wellness. Learners will have the opportunity to explore these topics through mini-lectures, interactive games, discussions, and video clips. During three days at this health and wellness camp, learners will: Day 1: Nutrition and Healthy Eating Basics -Understand the importance of healthy eating and smart food choices -Identify the role and importance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats -Summarize the importance of water and list ways to stay hydrated Day 2: Basic Food Group-Making Healthy Food Choices -Identify the components of the five basic food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy -Create realistic goals to make improvements in selecting healthy food options Day 3: Physical Activity Basics -Understand the importance of regular physical activity -Identify the role of physical activity in academic achievement -Develop a personalized physical activity plan based on the recommendation for youth and adolescents This course was designed for learners who want to learn more about the benefits of making healthy food choices and engaging in physical activity during the summer break. No previous experience or prior knowledge is needed to participate in this course.

Parental Guidance
We will use Nearpod and Gimkit for this course. These tools will be for knowledge checks and as instructional tools to deliver the content in an interactive way. No account will be required to use Nearpod or Gimkit. Students will not be required to create an account for these platforms. To join these platforms, students will be provided a link "join the class". Students will join the class with a code provided by their teacher and they will be instructed to enter their name as it is listed on their Outschool profile (i.e. first name only). We will also use Youtube for video clips, however, students will not be provided a link to access the Youtube website. The teacher will access Youtube from her computer and use the screen share feature so students can view the video.

My annual training from the National Federation of State High School Associations includes sports nutrition, concussions in sports, heat illness prevention, heat illness prevention, and protecting students from abuse. I am also a licensed Zumba instructor and a Certified Nutrition Coach (Certification #1220763404) from the National Association of Sports Medicine and fitness coach.
