I am happy to share my native language and the beauty of the Yorùbá culture with my students. The course starts with elementary lessons like learning the Yorùbá alphabets, greetings and introduction and will end up with lessons like self-expression at different occasions or places: home, school, and even how to converse on the telephone etc. The class will be fun and highly participatory, students will learn how to begin basic conversation and responses in Yorùbá with the help of the teacher. ~Week 1: Introducing Yorùbá alphabets and tones ~Week 2: Introducing different forms of greetings in Yorùbá ~Week 3: Showing respect in Yorùbá, and thanking people ~Week 4: Naming tradition in Yorùbá and importance of name in the culture ~Week 5: Days of the week in Yorùbá ~Week 6: The use of honorific pronouns (Ẹ, Wọn, Yín) in greetings ~Week 7: Introducing Yorùbá numerals 1-100 ~Week 8: Introducing oneself and talking about oneself
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, students should be able to:
~Speak a bit of Yorùbá language
~Know the Yorùbá alphabet
~Identify numbers in Yoruba
~Have a deep connection with the language by identifying the days of the week in Yoruba
~Read and understand Yorùbá to a reasonable extent
~Greet in Yoruba
~Know Yoruba names and meaning

Students are encouraged to respect one another during conversations and with no use of abusive or offensive words. Youtube link will be screen shared.

I was born and raised in Oyo town, an ancient city in Oyo state. I have a full understanding of the Yoruba language and culture because I am a native speaker and I've also been able to teach the language orally and verbally to diverse culture over the years.
