Description

Class Experience

Because phonemic awareness skills build on each other, it is required that your learner complete part 1 prior to beginning part 2.

Phonemic awareness provides learners with the building blocks necessary for early reading and spelling.  It is the ability to hear the individual sounds in words as well as the ability to manipulate these sounds to make new words.  These skills will help your young learner to build a solid foundation for early reading.

The skills covered in this course series...

Learners will gain the following skills:
*How to produce of rhyming words
*How to generate words based on an initial consonant
*How to isolate the initial, medial (vowel), and final sound in a spoken word
*How to blend and segment the onset-rime (l-og) and body-coda (ca-t)
*How to blend individual sounds into a word
*How to add, delete, and manipulate (change) the initial sound in a word

I am a licensed elementary teacher with extensive training in early literacy.

No supplies are needed

1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

This is NOT a reading class.  All skill practice is auditory (verbal).  We will NOT be reading.
