Class Experience

Students will learn how to use wax sticks to create a picture of a Thanksgiving Turkey. They will develop their creativity and eye-hand coordination as they manipulate the wax sticks. They will also practice finger dexterity while they play.
There is no homework for this class, but I would love for students to take a photo of their finished work and share it with the class.
~ Each student will need 2-3 sheets of paper, size 8.5x11. You can use construction paper in brown, tan, or white. You can also use plain white printer paper. ~ A pencil for tracing the shape. (Each child will be tracing their hand.) ~ A pair of safety scissors. ~ For any students who may have difficulty tracing, please let me know and I will send the outline for parents to print onto printer paper prior to class. ~ Each student will need their own set of colorful Wikki Stix or another brand of wax sticks. I saw a Rainbow pack at JoAnn's for about $5 that came with 24 colorful sticks.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
~Learners will be working with materials that could become a choking hazard if used inappropriately. Due to the small parts, Wikki Stix are not recommended for children under 3 years old.
~Adult supervision and approval is required for students to handle the wax sticks in order to ensure the safety of each student.
~Please take appropriate precautionary measures regarding your child's participation.
~Parental approval and supervision is required for use of the materials. Please read all instructions and cautions on the package thoroughly prior to the class to ensure the health and safety of your child.
~Adults who are supervising are asked to remain present, but off camera, during class.

Students will need to have the attention span and ability to stay engaged for the full 30 minutes of class. Younger students may need prompting from a grownup to encourage them to stay engaged. My goal is to use activities that will take care of that, but each child is unique in his or her interests.
If students have difficulty tracing their hand, just let me know. I can send an outline for parents to print onto printer paper prior to class.
