Hi everyone! I am so excited to offer a new multi-day camp where we will have fun painting one of my favorite subjects, beautiful sunsets! I also hope that the learners will practice being fearless when it comes to layering and mixing their colors on the page. In this camp, we will be creating four paintings small paintings on one sheet of paper and 3 stand-alone paintings, all using slightly different techniques and methods. Over the four days, you will create a sunset study, a sunset with hot air balloon silhouettes, a city skyscape sunset, and a tropical sunset with palm trees. At the beginning of each class, the students will say hi and be encouraged to share something fun. I will then guide them through the day's painting, encourage questions, check-in often with them, and ask them to share their paintings at the end of class (if they choose not to, that is okay also). By the of the week, your students will have four very different paintings, all of which they will be proud of and hopefully learned something along the way. Day 1: Sunset Study-- we will be doing 4 different sunset scenes on one sheet of paper to work on layering and mixing colors on the paper. Day 2: Sunset with Silhouette Hot Air Balloons-- on our second day, we will put our practice from day one into practice as we paint hot air balloons floating off into the sunset. Day 3: City Skyscape-- for our third day, we will use the wet-on-wet method to paint a beautiful city skyline at sunset. We will also practice layering our colors for our buildings. Day 4: Tropical Sunset-- on our last day, the learners will put everything they have practiced to work in creating a beautiful tropical sky with palm trees. They will also practice being fearless when it comes to letting their colors mix on the page. **It is IMPORTANT that learners have paper specifically meant for watercolor painting (not printer paper, cardstock, or mixed media paper) and soft bristle brushes meant for watercolor; this will lead to less frustration for your learner down the road. Supplies: -Watercolor paper 140lb (100% cotton paper will give your learner the best experience) -Paintbrushes (soft bristles, meant for watercolor) -Watercolor paints -2 cups of water -Masking/washi tape (no wider than an inch) -Paper towel -white gel pen or 0.7mm sized Posca -White Posca pen, gouache, or acrylic paint -Hairdryer -Pencil and eraser -compass or circle template

Hi everyone! I am a graduate of Western Washington University with a B.A. in English and a minor in art history. I grew up in Washington State but have lived out on the east coast for most of my adult life. I have been a nanny, homework coach, and tutor for over 20 years. I love working with younger children and teens to help them realize the potential within. I work with kids ages 4 to 18 in reading, reading comprehension, reading remediation, grammar, language arts, elementary/middle school math, pre-algebra, organizational/study skills, HSPT, and ISEE exams.
Whenever I work with a child, whether it's in academics, art/crafting, or baking, I meet the child where they are and build them up from there; I am patient, kind, and understanding. Every child must know that a mistake is not a bad thing, just one step on the path to learning something new and that these steps are the building blocks of understanding.
During my free time, I love to paint, craft, and bake! I have been creating art and crafts for the last ten-plus years and selling them at local shows. I make 3-D paper flowers, burlap wreaths, stamped coasters, work with alcohol inks, fluid painting, watercolor painting, decoupage, and bookbinding. I hope to share all of these with the learners on Outschool!
Finally, I love to bake and cook! I used to sell my bread at a local farmers' market when I lived in Washington State. I am continually trying a new recipe or perfecting one of my own to share with everyone. When I was a nanny, baking and cooking were two of my favorite things to do with the kids. I taught them to bake cookies, bread, breakfast, and even how to roast a chicken.
Thank you for allowing me to work with your children and helping them realize they can do whatever they set their minds to. The only limits they have are the ones they place on themselves.
