Class Experience

I love creating cute creatures that come to life once the color is added, and even more, I love teaching how to create these creatures to students. Students will be guided, step-by-step, to draw and paint these two winter cats in this class. The students will first follow me in the drawing of the cats in pencil on their watercolor paper. Once they are happy with the drawing, we will paint in the cute winter cats with watercolor paints. We will be using both wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques in the painting of the cats. To dry our paintings a little quicker, I will have the students use a hairdryer on low speed to dry the paint. Next, we will outline the cats and add details by using a black, fine-point pen. Once done, the winter cats will be full of personality and something that your child will be proud of!

**Parents, if your child is not used to using a hairdryer, please be nearby to assist them.

Hi everyone! I am a graduate of Western Washington University with a B.A. in English and a minor in art history. I grew up in Washington State, lived out on the east coast for most of my adult life, and am now back in Washington State. I have been a nanny, homework coach, and tutor for over 20 years. I love working with younger children and teens to help them realize the potential within. I work with kids ages 4 to 18 in reading, reading comprehension, reading remediation, grammar, language arts, elementary/middle school math, pre-algebra, organizational/study skills, HSPT, and ISEE exams.

Whenever I work with a child, whether it's in academics, art/crafting, or baking, I meet the child where they are and build them up from there; I am patient, kind, and understanding. Every child must know that a mistake is not a bad thing, just one step on the path to learning something new and that these steps are the building blocks of understanding.

During my free time, I love to paint, craft, and bake! I have been creating art and crafts for the last ten-plus years and selling them at local shows. I make 3-D paper flowers, burlap wreaths, stamped coasters, work with alcohol inks, fluid painting, watercolor painting, decoupage, and bookbinding. I hope to share all of these with the learners on Outschool!

Finally, I love to bake and cook! I used to sell my bread at a local farmers' market when I lived in Washington State. I am continually trying a new recipe or perfecting one of my own to share with everyone. When I was a nanny, baking and cooking were two of my favorite things to do with the kids. I taught them to bake cookies, bread, breakfast, and even how to roast a chicken.

Thank you for allowing me to work with your children and helping them realize they can do whatever they set their minds to. The only limits they have are the ones they place on themselves.
