Beginner Level
Let’s have some fun with sounds! The research is in and playing with sounds (phonological processing) is critical to becoming a reader. In this class, I will introduce the following key early phonological processing skills: • Identifying individual sounds in 3 letter words • Starting sound identification • Segmenting the sounds in 3 letter words • Vowel purpose and identification • Rhyming & how to identify words that rhyme The class will be structured around short silly stories and games with short lessons distributed between these activities. We will hunt for the “z” sound, play BINGO, read a silly book, and much more! I will also provide a downloadable companion document with 2 printable Memory games, more fun sound game ideas, and a list of great rhyming books. No reading skills are required for this class. While I will include letters throughout the class, the focus will be on sounds. This is a one-time class that you can take on your student’s schedule. This is a pre-recorded class so there will be no direct communication. However, in this course, I engage students with questions, games, and invitations to join me in making sounds. My teaching approach for this age group is to keep a brisk pace with short lessons followed by engaging silly activities.
Learning Goals

By the end of this course, students will be beginning to identify starting sounds, middle sounds (vowels), and ending sounds in 3 letter CVC words.
