What's included

10 live meetings
7 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Each week we will have a homework sheet(s) to be completed outside of class. We will discuss this during class. We will review the homework answers at the beginning of the next lesson. Homework is not mandatory but is highly encouraged. It should only take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.
Assessment
I will send out feedback to the parents at the end of the semester. I will check in with the parents sooner if the learner is struggling in a specific area. I always welcome questions/comments during the semester.

Class Experience

US Grade 2
This 10-week, semester long course covers the second half of second grade math. The first half is "Fun With Second Grade Math: Semester 1". It is a great class to get ahead or review for second grade math. My classes are interactive and fun. I like to engage the children and we all problem solve together. I may use props, a whiteboard, and fun animated PowerPoint slides during my lessons. I always encourage learner interaction and I check in occasionally with a thumb's up to make sure there are no questions before we proceed. We start class by reviewing the answers from the previous week's homework. We then learn a new math concept, practice together and may complete a worksheet during class. I explain the homework sheet at the end of class and answer any remaining questions.

The topics for this semester cover:
Week 1: Time (5 minutes, seconds, minutes, hours, day, week, year, AM/PM)
Week 2: Time (5 minutes, seconds, minutes, hours, day, week, year, AM/PM)
Week 3: Addition/subtraction up to 1000
Week 4: Addition/subtraction up to 1000
Week 5: Addition/subtraction up to 1000
Week 6: Measure and estimate length
Week 7: Word problems including time, length, money
Week 8: Word problems involving 2 steps
Week 9: Represent and interpret data
Week 10: Geometry (reason with shapes and attributes, divide shapes into halves, thirds, fourths)

I will send out a file before class. It will be uploaded in the classroom. This may include a homework sheet and/or a worksheet for the learner to follow along in class. We will start each lesson reviewing the homework answers from the prior week. See you in class!

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College
Hello! My name is Erin Howard. I love teaching young learners. My passion is to help your young learner gain the knowledge and confidence in their basic math skills. My math classes focus on skills such as solving word problems, learning math fact families, place value, telling time, geometry, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

I have my bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College. I have owned a home daycare, privately tutored students in math, and was a teaching assistant in college. I have taught over 8,000 classes online.

My goal is to bring fun, excitement, and passion into my classroom. It is important for young learners to be engaged, actively participate, and enjoy learning. This builds the foundation of how they will view their journey for knowledge in the future. I know I have accomplished this goal when my students continue to return to my classroom, and I see their personal improvement and how proud they are of their progress.

Outside of work, I am a mother of five children, and I have three grandchildren. My children are my pride and joy. My youngest two children are twins. They are nineteen years old and they are sophomores in college. We enjoy cooking, baking, playing with our dog, watching movies, shopping, and taking trips to visit new places.

I look forward to this journey with you and your young learner. I will see you in the classroom.
