Is your learner just beginning to read? If so, they will soon need to know “sight words”, or words they should know just by looking, without making the sounds of each letter to figure it out. This ongoing class will work on a different set of five sight words in the Dolch Pre-Primer list each week. Students should have mastered identifying most of the 26 letters of the alphabet to be successful in this class. Every student will get a turn to SEE/ SPELL/ SAY each new word, then write it in the air or on paper or a whiteboard at home. We will then play a variety of games including Spot It (find the correct word among several on the screen), Shape Puzzles (write the correct sight word in the matching shape according the the size of each letter), Riddles (which word starts with a letter /t/ and has three letters), and reading sentences containing target sight words with picture clues! Week 1 ( Jun 3): the, to, and, a, I Week 2 (Jun 10): you, it, in, said, for Week 3 (Jun 17): up, look, is, go, we Week 4 (Jun 24): little, down, can, see, not Week 5 (Jul 1): one, my, me, big, come ~vacation break~ Week 6 (Jul 15): blue, red, where, jump, away Week 7 (Jul 22): here, help, make, yellow, two Week 8 (Jul 29): play, run, find, three, funny

Learners will improve their recognition and spelling of common sight words.

Supply List
Paper and writing instrument (pencil, crayon, marker) or a dry erase board and marker are requested but not required. It is also helpful if learners know how to annotate on screen in Zoom or have a parent available nearby during class to assist.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have a variety of classes to offer including kindergarten and first grade reading/ phonics skills, story read alouds and discussions, and how to care for guinea pigs!
I have taught almost all ages of children for many years, from infant through sixth grade, as well as been an early intervention (birth to three) parent educator and online ESL teacher. I homeschooled my twin boys for the year before they entered kindergarten and it was a most wonderful time in my life that I would love to share with other families and children!
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for twenty years. We have a musically and artistically talented seventeen year old daughter and smart and funny identical twin twelve year old boys.
