Pictures at an Exhibition, composed by Modest Mussorgsky, is a musical walk through an art exhibit. We will listen our way through the exhibit - like a field trip to an art museum combined with an orchestra concert! As learners listen to each of the movements, they will be able to draw or sketch what they "see" in the music. After each movement, we will have a short discussion time when learners can share their drawings, or describe what they heard. Interspersed in our walk through the musical exhibit, we will learn about the composer, and view some of the actual artwork this piece was based on. Through our discussion, learners will learn about musical concepts such as major vs. minor, tempo, dynamics, etc. helping to develop an understanding and appreciation of classical music.
Learning Goals
This class is designed to be a small sample of beautiful art and music. It will help students to develop an understanding and appreciation of classical music. We will discuss various aspects of music such as major vs. minor, tempo, dynamics, etc. Topics discussed will vary class to class depending on the course of our discussion.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I have played Piano, Cello, and French Horn for over 30 years and am actively involved in playing all three in various groups where I live. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Pacific Lutheran University. I've taught Band, Choir, French Horn, and Elementary Music among other things. Currently, I teach Piano Lessons with over 20 years experience. I also have the privilege of homeschooling my own 3 kids. This is our 7th year, and we love the freedom and family connection it builds.
My goal in teaching music is to help learners discover a love of music and develop their own musical abilities and talents. Everyone can enjoy music - whether playing for fun, or professionally. Maybe it's just singing in the shower, dancing to the radio, or listening to the latest charts. No matter their level of interaction with music, I want to help my learners understand the music that they hear so they can connect with it more deeply. Music is a gift and the more one understands it, the more rich it becomes.
I also enjoy hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where we live. You might find me out on a trail with my family and our cat! She's leash trained and loves hiking with us.
