US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
This 45 minute class will focus on the "B" sound using the book, Where Do Balloons Go?, by Jamie Lee Curtis. I will engage in an interactive story with your child. We will use magnetic pictures of items, focusing on the beginning sound and will sort the items into a sorting bag. Following the sound exploration, we will create a craft that accompanies the story. This is a fun engaging story which focuses on letting go, where a boy's imagination runs wild when he lets his balloon go into the sky. This story lends itself to all types of learners.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the sound the letter B makes. Learning that there are predictable relationships between sounds and letters allows children to apply these relationships to both familiar and unfamiliar words, and to begin to read with fluency.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I teach classes for young readers to encourage a life long love of reading and literacy. My professional background includes over 10 years in the primary elementary grades as well as 20 years as a professional literacy coach for teachers and staff. My most recent years include parent engagement duties at the district level where I supported staff, students, and families. I believe that all children can learn and my own love of learning, reading, and literature comes through in all of my interactions with students and families. I believe that reading is the most important skill that a person can possess and I believe that the process should be fun and engaging. I am recently retired from 34 years of teaching and leading. I live at the beach and enjoy exercising, reading, riding my bike, and swimming.
