US Grade 2
In this one-time class, we will learn how to pronounce and read words the R-controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur). The foundation for successful reading includes learning the individual sounds that a letter, or multiple letters make together. In this fun, interactive class, the learners will be taught what "Bossy R" does to the vowels that come right before him. A, E, I, O and U make a different sound when paired with "Bossy R". Your learner should already know the basic letter sounds. The learners will meet "Bossy R" and be taught the specific phonetic sounds of ar, er, ir, or, and ur. We will practice these sounds. We will then use PowerPoint slides to search for R-controlled vowel words and practice reading them together. We will make sentences using some of our newly learned R-controlled vowel words. We will finish class testing our new reading skills with flashcards and associated fun pictures. I like my classes to be interactive. I encourage class participation. I always welcome questions. We take turns raising our hands when answering and sometimes we all yell out the answers together! I hope you will join me for a short time in your ongoing journey to read.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College
Hello! My name is Erin Howard. I love teaching young learners. My passion is to help your young learner gain the knowledge and confidence in their basic math skills. My math classes focus on skills such as solving word problems, learning math fact families, place value, telling time, geometry, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
I have my bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College. I have owned a home daycare, privately tutored students in math, and was a teaching assistant in college. I have taught over 8,000 classes online.
My goal is to bring fun, excitement, and passion into my classroom. It is important for young learners to be engaged, actively participate, and enjoy learning. This builds the foundation of how they will view their journey for knowledge in the future. I know I have accomplished this goal when my students continue to return to my classroom, and I see their personal improvement and how proud they are of their progress.
Outside of work, I am a mother of five children, and I have three grandchildren. My children are my pride and joy. My youngest two children are twins. They are nineteen years old and they are sophomores in college. We enjoy cooking, baking, playing with our dog, watching movies, shopping, and taking trips to visit new places.
I look forward to this journey with you and your young learner. I will see you in the classroom.
