Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this class, young learners will become ready for Kindergarten by becoming more familiar with their letters, sounds and first 20 sight words and begin the first steps in reading, which are all things they will encounter their first weeks in these grades. (This would also be great for students in need of review of these concepts before First grade.)
I teach using slides with games that I have created like look and finds, graphic organizers, and sorts that help with young learner's engagement. I also use short songs and kinesthetic movement to help students retain their learning.
Each class will begin with letter and sounds practice including kinesthetic movements to reinforce the sounds of each letter. We may also begin with a fun and engaging phonemic awareness activity, which gives students practice with manipulating sounds. Then we will learn a new sight word. We will play games and use kinesthetic learning and writing to retain the new sight word and practice using it in a sentence. Finally, we will begin using what we know about these letters, sounds and sight words to read an early reader text with simple sentences like, "The bus can go." To end our time together, we will play a review game or write a sentence using our new sight word. With a small class size (no more than 5), there are plenty of opportunities for students to participate by showing their writing, answering questions, and participating in games, which they always find exciting!
Below are the plans for each week, which I update bi-monthly:

Week of 4/29-
Letters and Sounds Review
Sight words- have, will
Word pattern -up, -un

Week of 5/6-
Letters and Sounds Review
Sight Words- one, how
Word family -op, -ot

Week of 5/13-
Letters and Sounds Review
Sight Words- all, said
Word family -am, -ap

During each class, parents should be nearby to help with any technology issues but do not necessarily need to sit with their child. Of course, parents are welcome to sit off camera if they feel their learner needs additional support.
Please feel free to message me with any questions!
