This class will cover several phonics skills that will improve a student's reading ability and help them foster a love for reading. The skills will include short and long vowels, consonant blends, vowel rules, and vowel teams. Students will learn these skills through interactive activities, video clips and songs, slide presentations, games, visuals, and discussion. Day #1 Skills: - vowel review - short vowel sounds - long vowel sounds - short and long vowel rules - consonant blends - practice writing words that follow these rules and patterns - play a game to practice new words Day #2 Skills: - review vowel sounds and rules and blends - introduce 8 vowel teams - play a game to practice reading new words Students need to be familiar with the alphabet and the 5 vowels to be most successful in this class. This class is perfect for students who need to refresh their skills or learn new skills. Even though a student may already know vowel sounds, they can benefit from this class since it will be a different perspective and teaching style for learning these vital reading skills.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to sound out, read, and spell new words. Students will be able to recognize patterns within words to successfully sound them out and read many new words.
