Does your learner know their letters and sounds? Do you want to support them on their reading journey? Then I am here to help! In this ongoing, weekly class for beginning readers, we will learn to blend, read and write words using a variety of multi-sensory techniques and fun activities! At the beginning of each class, learners will be introduced to the phoneme or word family that we are studying. Learners can brainstorm words that fit that category. We may act out the words, use our bodies to spell out the words, use a Pop It toy to pop as we spell the word, build the words with magnetic letters, write the word family, use a rap, poem, chant, or song to reinforce the word family. Then, we will have some onset/rime blending practice. After that, learners will be introduced to the reader of the lesson. They will track the words while I read it out loud. Next, we will practice echo reading. Learners will then identify words from the reader that fit into the word family category. Finally, learners will practice visualization and draw a picture of what the reader made them think of. If they are comfortable reading out loud, each learner will get a turn to read the poem out loud! We will begin with short vowel word families (CVC or consonant-vowel-consonant) and progress to long vowel word families. (CVCe or consonant-vowel-consonant-silent e) Week 1 - May 29: at word family Week 2 - June 5: am word family Week 3 - June 12: an word family Week 4 - June 26: ap word family Week 5 - July 3: ag word family Week 6 - July 10: ad word family Week 7 - July 17: et word family Week 8 - July 24: en word family Week 9 - July 31: ed word family Week 10 - August 7: it word family Week 11 - August 14: in word family Week 12 - August 21: ig word family Week 13 - August 28: id word family
