Classical music doesn't have to be boring! In this class, learners will enjoy an interactive listening experience of Sergei Prokofiev's beautiful classic, "Peter and the Wolf". They will learn about instruments of the orchestra, musical stories, and musical themes. This class is perfect for young elementary age students as an introduction to orchestral music. If comfortable, learners will have the opportunity to help "act" out the story using the provided handout as we listen. Learners will need a quiet area (or headphones) in order to hear and appreciate the music fully.

Learn about musical themes

Other Details
Parental Guidance
The story of Peter and the Wolf is an old story of a brave boy who captures a wolf with the help of his animal friends. There are hunters briefly firing guns in the story, but no one is injured. The wolf does swallow the duck whole. Some children may be more sensitive to this plot twist than others. Please be aware when enrolling your child in this class, and use your personal judgement whether it will be a good fit or not.
Supply List
A 4-page handout will be provided Learners will need: scissors glue craft sticks (optional)
1 file available upon enrollment
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Music has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I have played Piano, Cello, and French Horn for over 30 years and am actively involved in playing all three in various groups where I live. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Pacific Lutheran University. I've taught Band, Choir, French Horn, and Elementary Music among other things. Currently, I teach Piano Lessons with over 20 years experience. I also have the privilege of homeschooling my own 3 kids. This is our 7th year, and we love the freedom and family connection it builds.
My goal in teaching music is to help learners discover a love of music and develop their own musical abilities and talents. Everyone can enjoy music - whether playing for fun, or professionally. Maybe it's just singing in the shower, dancing to the radio, or listening to the latest charts. No matter their level of interaction with music, I want to help my learners understand the music that they hear so they can connect with it more deeply. Music is a gift and the more one understands it, the more rich it becomes.
I also enjoy hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where we live. You might find me out on a trail with my family and our cat! She's leash trained and loves hiking with us.
