Come join our professional improvisers for a class that focuses on the fundamentals of improvisational theater, and how to showcase them while playing theater games. We'll discuss the different kinds of short-form improv games. Students will receive direction and notes from the instructor, and students will have opportunities to discuss and work with one another. Please have a space prepared where you can move and make some noise. (This section is intended for late elementary/early middle school students.) Week of May 22nd: Yes and Week of May 29th: Questions Only Week of June 5th: Types of Games Week of June 12th: Building Blocks Each class kicks off with the fundamentals. Every week we will discover new games and exercises. These games are designed to be easy for students to learn and new students are welcome to join at any point. Improv offers an excellent platform for students to enhance teamwork, quick and creative thinking, listening skills and to build confidence.
Learning Goals
This class aims to build social and collaboration skills in students, and to improve their self-confidence. By using sociodramatic play in an improvised theater setting, we hope to encourage students to share their ideas, negotiate with peers, and collaborate on the direction of a scene in real time.
