One of my most beloved memories from elementary school was the annual Valentine's Day party. I wanted to recreate the memory of that special day for my students. This class is loaded with lots of games while reviewing some basic grammar facts that have been taught in my Smoky Mountains Grammar classes and The Great Grammar Adventure. Students are not required to have taken any of my previous classes, but this will be a good review for any grammar student. The class will include a quiz-style game with points, a word find, and a fun, simple craft. I teach the class using colorful, engaging slides that are simply brimming with all things hearts and candies. Printouts will be included for the craft. Students will need scissors, glue, and paper. I hope your student will join me in making some fun memories. This class is perfect for the advanced first-grader, on-level second-grader, and the third-grader who needs a little review.

Supply List
printouts (included), paper, scissors, glue (I recommend a glue stick.) For our craft, please print cutouts on a heavy paper for durability. Please have students make their choices before class and have their items pre-cut. We will assemble the Vintage Valentine Guy/Girl in class together. Please make sure your students know how to use the annotate function on Zoom. They will need it for the word find game.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.
As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.
I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.
I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
