Class Experience

Are you interested to grow your own food and flowers? Gardening can be so much fun! In this interactive one-time class, we'll talk about our favorite fruits and veggies. We'll play a game with picture cards to learn about the different types of food that we can grow ourselves. Students will also learn a very easy way to plant seeds. My goal is for students to get inspired about gardening, and learn how easy it is to grow food! For this beginner-level class, no previous experience with gardening is necessary. I look forward to teaching your child and helping them learn while having fun!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Miss Margo! I am passionate about gardening and environmental stewardship. My goal is to help make gardening and nature education more accessible to kids, and for them to have fun while learning. I have an empathetic approach with children and treat them with respect. I show them that I care about their ideas and questions, and am here to support their learning process.

I have a Master's degree in Organic Agriculture and Food Systems, and a Bachelor's degree in Biology. My Master's thesis was about school garden-to-cafeteria programs and gave recommendations on how to integrate student-grown produce into school food. My research launched me into a career in garden education! Since 2013, I have been leading garden and farm education programs for youth ages 3-18. I help PreK-12 schools and community centers create and maintain their garden spaces. My programs guide children through the entire process of gardening including design, planting, maintenance, harvesting, and composting. For three years I was the Gardener-in-Residence at a Chicago preschool, leading their "seed-to-table" gardening program. I am also certified in Edible Landscaping and Container Design.

I am very interested in holistic wellness and homesteading. I make my own salves and body care products. I am super into cooking, fermentation, and DIY food preparation. I also love the arts; I enjoy photography, singing, playing guitar, sewing, and knitting!

I look forward to teaching your child. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
