This class is taught in French.
Students will learn basics of French pronunciation, sentence structure and vocabulary, as well as listening and comprehension skills.
I have experience teaching beginner level French to college students, and to elementary schoolers and middle schoolers in my homeschooling coop. I have also been teaching French to my 8 year-old daughter since she was 2 years old.
No mandatory homework will be assigned. Students may be encouraged to perform certain activities outside of class to further improve their mastery of French, such as listen to a particular song or podcast.
A notebook and pencil.
Informal assessment methods, such as occasional Kahoot games, will be conducted to assess overall progress of students in class.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
YouTube will be used for songs, video clips and short stories, all of which will be selected from age-appropriate sources (PG materials). DuoLingo exercises or podcasts may be used as well, and content will again be selected based on age appropriate materials (PG materials). Students are encouraged to have a DuoLingo account to practice learning French on their own, but this will not be required for the class. Kahoot will be used to conduct group games as a review for the French concepts being taught. Account is not required, but I will explain to kids about how to join the game and respond to questions.
I will share Youtube videos and read stories from children's books and magazines written in French.
