Class Experience

This is a fun intro class to the cool process of needle felting also known as wool painting. This is a dry felting process using a barbed needle and wool roving to create a felted unicorn. Suggested age is 10 and up due to the sharp barbed needle required. The dry felting process of needle felting is achieved by continuously poking and stabbing the pure wool roving which causes the fibers to interlock and felt.
In the 1st class we will start off making a little unicorn skeleton using the fuzzy sticks. We will then use the wool and a needle to start creating his body.
In the 2nd class we will work on his legs and tail and start on his head.
In the last class we will finish his head add a horn and tweak everything.
I will work each step of making the unicorn with the class.

Other Details

Supply List
Items to Purchase:
Ruler
Chenille stems/Fuzzy sticks (4 in white or if doing a dark colored unicorn black or brown)
Barbed needles (at least 2 in case of breakage)
.5 oz packages of wool roving in white (or unicorn color of your choice) black, white, soft pink - Cost less than $2 per color or you could buy a variety pack
Small foam block - Cost is about $2
Sometimes I find needle and foam block combination packages in Hobby Lobby for $1.99
I get my supplies at Hobby Lobby locally. Some Michaels have a few items. My favorite brand of roving is Artiste (it is not too smooth and easier to felt)
Another option is to order from Amazon, Ebay etc.

I love the feel and look of needle felted items/art and have been doing it for about 4 years. I have offered classes and workshops at various local county Fine Arts facilities and excited to share my love of this art form by offering classes online.
