In this one time course, students will learn about compound words with fun and engaging activities. Students will learn what a compound word is. We will look at pictures that make up a compound word. Then we will look at compound words and learn how to split the compound words into two words. The students will learn how to determine the meaning of compound words. Students will then engage in activities and a game to help them with their understanding of compound words. Students will read compound words. Students need to be able to read in order to complete this course. Students will need to bring crayons/paper or a whiteboard/dry erase marker. Class Flow: 1. Introductions 2. Definition of Compound Words 3. Look at compound words and learn to split them. 4. Determine the meaning of compound words. 5. Match picture and word activity. 6. Students will draw a compound word and their peers will guess what the compound word is. 7. Goodbye

Hello, my name is Teacher Janae. I live and work in Great Bend, Kansas, as a first-grade teacher. I have been teaching first grade for ten years! I currently hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education with an emphasis in ESOL and an emphasis in Special Education. My Master's Degree is in Education with a focus in ESOL.
The classes I will teach will be based on Common Core math and reading for first grade. Since I have been a first-grade teacher for the past ten years, I have a lot of knowledge with these standards. I plan on making my classes fun, engaging, and interactive.
