Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello to all! Un saludo para todos!
I was born in New york in the city of Queens. My family is From Colombia the city of Medellin. I grew up with both the American & Colombian culture and learned to appreciate both. Growing up with both cultures taught me the importance of being fluent in both languages, which is why I want to offer Spanish classes to my younger crowd! I will translate and teach your kids different words and proper pronounciation. With time they will be able to speak in sentences. There's no better time than when your kids are young to learn a new language!
My Passion for working with kids and helping them reach all their ability came from having a younger sister with special needs. At a very young age I learned to assist her in her academic learning and take care of her needs emotionally. As I grew older my passion for helping kids grew, so in 2016 I started working for the Department of Education of New York City and currently still do. I help my students learn to read and write. One of my privileges in my profession was being assigned to many Spanish-speaking children in my department, where I was able to support them in learning a new language such as english. I also support my students emotional needs through the city's program "Social Emotional Learning", which I intend to incorporate in my Spanish classes. It gives students an opportunity to express how they feel and discuss it as a class if they feel comfortable doing so. It also allows them to develop social skills while learning a new language!
As to myself, I am a very energetic person and love to help others around me. I love to encourage my students to reach their potential but to also have fun along the way. I am a firm believer that teachers who teach from the heart are the ones who make a difference in their students. My classes will be interactive and full of energy, ready to provide your child with some fun! We all need a bit of fun in our routines, having a balance is key!
Aside from teaching, I enjoy the outdoors. I love to go hiking with my family and my dog, Luna! I am very family oriented, and enjoy spending every minute with family and my loved ones. I also have a passion for writing just about anything, even my own thoughts. I enjoy doing crafts and creating new things, this skill I discovered with my students working for the Department of Education. This is just a bit about me! With time I hope to get to know everyone of your kids and deliver a fun and safe environment! Please feel free to ask me any questions!
