Class Experience

The goals of this six-week session are as follows:
1. To teach pencil drawing techniques, including shading, highlighting, and contrast.
2. To introduce the use of charcoal, as well as techniques in line, shading, and blending
3. To promote the use of facial details in animated characters to convey emotion
4. To introduce tools for "animating" or "cartoon-creating" lively renditions of traditional forest, farm, and sea animals
5. To have fun not only practicing their new skills, but launching their own individual style via drawing details and expressive choices!
There will be no weekly homework, unless students choose to practice what they have learned each week. They are always encouraged to share their work with the class if they choose.
Students will need drawing pencils, a kneadable eraser, charcoal pencils (a set of three or four is suggested in soft, medium, and hard density--sometimes listed as 2B, 2H, 4B, etc.) and a 9 x 12" or 8.5 x 11" drawing pad. I will post links to suggested items on Amazon but supplies are also available at Michael's, some Walmarts, A.C. Moore, and other craft supply stores. Here is an Amazon link to the charcoal pencils: Here is a drawing pad link, although these can often be found less expensively at Ocean State Job Lot and Walmart: A link to a four-pack of kneadable eraser (each in small storage case) is:
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
