Welcome to Word Fun! In this class, we'll explore all sorts of word choices in sentences. We dive deep into fun adjectives that we can use to describe nouns. We'll make fun stories by inserting pronouns, nouns, adjectives, and verbs into pre-made stories. We'll have cascading activities where we try for good words, better words, and best words! We'll look at pictures and try and use descriptive words to tell others what we see. My teaching style is all about FUN and looking for ways to engage the students to keep them interested. I am channeling all of my great English teachers that got me excited to talk about words and to think about new possibilities! We will have the class segmented into activities where students will engage with one another, then work on writing their own words and lastly collaborating for a few group activities. I want my learners to be speaking as much as possible! So please come in without that mute on and we'll have a great time! Students need no previous experience other than knowing how to read simple CVC words, or make phonetic sounds of letters and write!
Learning Goals
Students will leave the class excited about words, word choice, and word options! We'll dive into picking words, looking up synonyms in our Word or Google Documents, and brainstorming new ways to look at fun words!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Vanessa and I've worked with kids for 14+ years inside and outside the classroom with art, reading, character development, and parties!
In Outschool, you'll find that my classes are focused on
1) Holiday Enrichment (art) classes (hello online class parties!) where we learn interesting facts, play games, draw/color, have fun, and learn about each other;
2) English, Science, and Math classes for Pre-K through 2nd grade that focus on hands-on learning (food and fractions, reading and comprehension, etc.). I have been inside the classroom helping 1-2nd graders for years and it's the best age in my book! They are sweet, love to share everything about their lives, and get so excited about learning!
3.) I also teach engaging Social classes (galaxy geeks), Personality classes, and Career Exploration. I honestly love to chat and I think that students should always feel safe and heard in their classes. I love teaching about Career Exploration because honestly, our education system has failed us in this regard! Learners are often figuring these topics out in college with very expensive semesters of discovery. Let's learn what we can now, while in middle and high schools BEFORE we decide which major or job field we want to join! I really love my personality series because it's fun to be introspective and focus on self-improvement. I hope to see your older 10+ age learners there!
My Bachelor's degree is from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Psychology with a minor in Children Studies and Language. I went into Psychology because honestly, I love people. I love to listen, talk and understand others.
My teaching philosophy is always aimed at getting the kids to have a great time while learning, so they don't even realize they're learning! I like to have kids be accountable as well in the classroom. Having students work on a worksheet, and then take time to share, explain and show their work is really important to me during class. If we ever run out of time, I prefer to see students share their work privately so they can get feedback and continue learning and growing.
I have a lot of energy while teaching because honestly, online learning has to be engaging. I love to play soccer and ski with my family! I can't wait to see you in the classroom!
I have six children and I live in the great state of Idaho!
