Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the vocabulary and concepts needed to talk about books and make helpful recommendations to their peers. They will also practice the social skills of active listening, asking questions, and taking turns.
I bring seven years of experience working as a Library Associate in the children's department of a large public library, and more than two years of teaching early literacy right here on Outschool!

> ESL
Ms. Christina began her career as an English teacher in Taiwan.
> EARLY LITERACY
Later, she worked for seven years in the children's department of a public library with a focus on Early Literacy and multilingual programming.
> EDUCATION
Ms. Christina has a Bachelor of Arts degree in INTERNATIONAL POLITICS and GERMAN.
She has a Master of Arts degree in INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS with a language focus on MANDARIN CHINESE.
The homework is to read twenty minutes every day — any book in any language.

During my early literacy training at the public library, I learned an incredible fact:
If you read for just 20 minutes a day, you will read 1.8 million words in one year!

Therefore, Ms. Christina wants everyone to read for twenty minutes a day. Not only will this daily reading habit expose the learner to 1.8 million words in a year, it will instill in them a lifelong love of reading. With reading being the cornerstone of all subsequent learning, the daily reading habit is the simplest, least expensive way to set your child up for a lifetime of success and joy.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
