Class Experience

Our ongoing story time was designed to help students feel comfortable reading on their own while learning reading strategies. Students will receive hands-on instruction and will practice oral reading, comprehension, sequencing and sight words. This is an introductory class to an ongoing reading workshop that meets each Saturday morning. The focus in each class will be on short vowel sounds and two to three consonant sounds. The stories we read in this workshop are written by me and help students practice new words using word families. Each class is designed to have your child master the sounds of the selected letters in a fun and engaging environment using, games, songs with opportunities for each student to read out loud.

Your child will learn reading strategies such as sequencing, comprehension, visualization, sight words, word families and vocabulary.
The following is what we will cover each week:

Week 1: Short Vowel /a/ and consonants M, N, S, and word families, an, ad
Week 2: Short Vowel /e/ and consonants: P, H, T and word families en, et
Week 3: Short Vowel /i/ and consonants: F, D, B and word families it, in
Week 4: Short Vowel /o/ and consonants: G, L, R and word families ot, op
Week 5: Short Vowel /u/ and consonants: W, J, and word families ut, ub
