Class Experience

Lessons will be taught in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

There are 12 levels in the Mandarin Chinese School. Learners can learn Mandarin from the pre-foundation level all the way to high school level. This is Level 3 (foundation) level.

Goals:
This course is designed for learners to be able to immediately use what they have learned in their daily life. Students will learn through dialogues, vocabularies, sentence patterns, and games. This class focuses on speaking, listening & pronunciation, but learners still learn the basic of the Mandarin School goals.

What to expect:
1.	Real hands-on learning experience: Students have the opportunity to use what they learn to create their own sentences while having conversations with me.
2.	Learn practical daily life conversation and say them in the correct way and with cultural context.
3.	Play games to help students remember what they have learned. We will do role play each time so learners have many opportunities to practice what they have learned in the class with the native speaker (me) and practice with their classmates.
4.	Learn from a native speaker with proper Mandarin tones and with a neutral Mandarin accent. (I was born and educated in Taipei, Taiwan and I completed my master in the U.S.A.). I will help students to correctly pronounce tones and provide a structured approach to learning Mandarin Chinese. Pronunciation is one of the key ingredients when learning a foreign language.
5.	Learners have options to utilize both Bopomofo and Pinyin, simplified characters and also traditional character

Parental Guidance
Learning a language is all about practice. Learners are encouraged to practice at home 10 minutes a day. Learners can choose to use the websites listed under Resources outside of Outschool (all resources are approved by Outschools) or use the standard Outschool tools to provide feedbacks/assignment or practice after the lesson. Learners who choose to use Quizlet, Kahoot, YouTube and Flipgrid will need to have access to these resources. I recommend learners to use these resources to help them to help them to learn Mandarin.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese privately and with a global language corporation to adults and children. I believe a small class setting is best for language learning so I can actively assist students with their language needs. Here are some comments from my students and their parents:

“Vivien was excellent | fantastic teacher, thanks for speaking slowly and clearly, very helpful! :) | Very good teaching. Well-paced reinforcement. Vivien seems to enjoy her job. | SO GOOD!!! love with other students. Teacher hen hao! | My kids love learning through you. We are so happy that you inspire them to learn, and that they enjoy their time with you. This is a gift. | Our son has enjoyed the classes from the start and has made steady progress. | Vivien has been attentive throughout the entire process and has made the classes interesting for him. We definitely recommend these classes.”

Based upon the feedback from my students, I believe your children will enjoy learning with me. Learning a language is a commitment. I offer small class settings so I can make sure each learner gets their opportunity to learn to use Chinese.
