#creative In this 3 week class, we will learn to become comfortable with the piano keys, and play some basic songs.

Class experience

Students will learn the proper way to hold their hands and wrists , and how to play on the keys.
Students will learn a couple of simple , beginner scales and chords.

Students will experience playing along with another player, which will be myself or another student.

One goal is to boost the confidence of the student , and ease any nervousness or concent about playing music. Each student will develop a level of competence at a few key piano skills.

The student will experience what it is like to play piano and have a better idea if it is something they may want to pursue.

Piano is complementary to any other instrument the student may already be learning, or it is a perfect starting instrument.
I have 20+ years experience, as a music teacher. I have taught piano, electric keyboard, guitar, and general music classes, in both the classroom and private settings.
I was head of the music department at a private high school in Maryland.
I taught private piano and guitar lessons at a guitar shop, for 5 years, in addition to my own private students in my studio.
I have a bachelor's degree in music education, from Towson University, plus graduate studies in music education.

Homework Offered
The song sheets for any songs we learn will be posted in the classroom, so you can print them out.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Casual informal assessment. If the parent desires something written, that can be done.
Grades Offered
Piano or electric piano / electric keyboard.
The ability to see the device they have zoom open on.
For electric instruments - The ability to plug the electric keyboard into an outlet, or batteries in the instrument.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will ask that you label 11 keys on your piano
keyboard, based on the instructions and diagram that will be posted in the classroom.
*Because the students do not know the names of the piano keys yet, I will post a diagram and I instructions for labelling your keyboard, in the classroom. Students that have their keys labelled do better learning the songs and they learn the note names of the keys faster.
I will provide any resources.
