Fun FLEX: Intro to Chemical Reactions, Hands-On Science Experiments
Jen Boulay (M. Ed)
Let's learn the basics of chemistry by making potions and other fun science experiments!
US Grade 2 - 5
This will be a fun, hands-on, engaging intro to chemistry class for children from the ages of 7-12 years old. Children will be learning the basics of chemistry and then taking a hands-on approach and creating the experiments in their homes while learning the science behind it! The students will be able to make educated predictions (hypotheses) and observe what occurs in each experiment. Students will be able to observe what they are seeing and feeling. The students will be drawing, writing,...
Students will be true scientists understanding the basic elements of chemistry, gaining knowledge with chemistry vocabulary, and having a fun, hands-on, engaging experience.
I minored in chemistry and have extensive knowledge of the subject matter. I also have incorporated chemistry over the past 10 years while working with students. Other training/education I have are a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Photography minor in Chemistry, AMS Montessori Teaching Certificate, M. Ed in Global perspective, and ABAR Training.
Homework OfferedHomework would just be to write on the class page with their observations and can even comment on other students' posts.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments OfferedNo formal assesments
All the learning material will be provided in the class. Materials needed for the science experiments at home will be listed before the class (most of these items you already have in your kitchen) Master List: -Journal or pieces of paper -Jars/Plates/Bowls/Spoons/Measuring Cups/Measuring Spoons/Clear Glasses -Funnel -Pipette (optional student can use a spoon instead) -Food Coloring -Red Cabbage Concentrate -Baking Soda -Vinegar -Salt -Lemon Juice -Rubbing Alcohol -Dish Soap -Flour -Coconut Oil/Vegetable Oil/any kind of oil -Alka Seltzer tablets -Yeast -Hydrogen Peroxide -Dish Soap

All the learning material will be provided in the class.
