In this lesson, students will be able to create a crayon resist hot cup of cocoa design using watercolor and crayons or oil pastels. I will be discussing the elements of art as we draw and paint and I will teach basic watercolor techniques, hints, and tricks. I will first do a directed drawing of the actual design using crayon while the students follow along. We will then go over our entire design with watercolor paint to fill in all of the empty space. We will also add a cool effect with a cotton ball at the end to show the steam coming from the cup! There is so much flexibility with this lesson and learners can get as creative as they would like! Each student learns at their own pace and I do everything that I can to make sure that each student feels successful. I have taught Kindergarten through 6th grade art in person and on line so I am very comfortable with the format. All learners are welcome! Everyone can create beautiful art regardless of their creative ability! The supplies for this lesson are white paper (thick if possible), crayons, watercolors, a water dish, a cotton ball, and a paint brush. Element of art focus - Line, value, form, texture, and color.

Hi! My name is Jana Beckstead and I have been teaching for 21 years. I started my career teaching 3rd grade for 2 years and then moved on to teach 2nd grade for 5 years. I also received my Early Elementary endorsement, Structured English Immersion Endorsement, and Art Endorsement. Along with my certification, I have attended hundreds of hours of professional development in the school district that I teach in. I absolutely love teaching; it is my passion.
