In this one time class, students will create an ocean piece and silhouette fish using watercolors and a sharpie.
Class experience
In this lesson, students will be able to create a beautiful ocean scene with watercolor paint with a silhouette fish and a small sun made with colored paper or paint. I will be discussing the difference between warm and cool colors, value, and texture in our artwork. I will first do a directed paint tutorial of the foreground while students follow along and then students will be able to draw their fish and add their sun using colored paper or paint. Students will improve their understanding of watercolor painting technique and the warm and cool colors. They will also improve their understanding of the elements of art, specifically texture, value, and color.
The supplies for this lesson are paper (thick if possible), a black crayon or sharpie, water colors, a small piece of orange or yellow construction paper, a dash of salt, a water dish, and a paint brush.
Parents may need to help cut out the sun with scissors if you have a young learner that needs assistance.
