In this lesson, students will be able to create a ladybug on a leaf with watercolor paint. I will be discussing the elements of art as we paint and teach basic watercolor techniques, hints, and tricks. I will first do a directed drawing of the ladybug and background with grass and flowers while students follow along. We will be using a crayon resist technique to color our background and then use a wet on wet water color technique over parts of the drawing. There is so much flexibility with...
Students will improve their understanding of the crayon resist and wet on wet watercolor painting technique. They will also improve their understanding of the elements of art, specifically texture, value, and color.
Students will need watercolor paper (or some type of thick paper), watercolor paint, crayons, a paintbrush, pencil, eraser, sharpie, and a water dish.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
