US Grade 4 - 6
An introduction to the periodic table will be covered in this course at an elementary-middle school level. Topics will include the concepts of atoms, elements, brief trends in the table, and how elements bond to other elements. A simple technique will be introduced so that a learner will know which elements will bond to other elements to form compounds and molecules. Fun slides will be presented while the teacher interacts with open friendly questions and shows models. Some learners will interact a great deal during class and are welcome to ask and answer questions at any point. Other learners may prefer to learn quietly and this is perfectly fine too. No previous knowledge or experience is needed. This is the junior version of the class: Fun Chemistry - An Introduction to Periodic Table.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge of atoms, elements, periodic table, and how elements bond to form compounds.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from University of Waterloo
Hi, I'm Trudy Field. I have a Bachelor of Environmental Chemistry degree from the University of Waterloo. I love to make teaching fun. Students learn best when learning is fun. I like to make the class interactive and entertaining.
I have always loved to teach and coach people. I love those a-ha moments when someone learns something new and experiences the happiness in knowing a skill has been mastered.
I like to tutor chemistry, physics, biology, and math courses at a junior high and high school level. I like to teach fun parts about these subjects and the fundamentals that would help a student understand parts of high school courses. I have tutored many high school students.
Coaching figure skating has been a passion of mine for over twenty years. I like to figure out how people learn and to interact with different personalities.
I believe students learn best when taught in a fun way. I like to allow a bit of autonomy in a class. While coaching skating, I offer choices of what we'll learn next - like spins or jumps. We'll inevitably cover both during that session or by the next session. I like to try to be fun in class and will allow a little bit of fun after setting guidelines to ensure learning is still the priority.
A fun project I did this winter was build a backyard skating rink! I did it through stomping the snow and then flooding the backyard with water. My son and I rigged up a simple flooding machine too!
