Fun Art Club (Age 7-10) Unique Interests? Draw and Paint Your Favourite Things.
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this weekly Art Club children get the chance to bring a favourite toy, object or book to the lesson. They will talk about their favourite object and we will use it as a starting point for an Art work to be created during the class. This could be anything from a realistic drawing of a favourite cuddly toy to an imagined landscape inspired by a ferocious toy dinosaur or set of lego knights. This is very much pupil centred in that they will bring their own toy/book/object and apply their own imagination and ideas. I am there to guide them all the way, from providing technical drawing advice on creating texture and realism to suggesting ideas and images to enhance their imaginary worlds. If the pupil has a favourite book I can help to recreate an imagined scene from the story or copy a favourite character using correct proportions. The pupils bring their own ideas and individual interests and I provide the teaching to help them achieve their goals whatever they may be! Each week will have a specific theme through which we will explore the chosen toy/object/book: Week of 19th September. Topic/theme- Drawing skills: Pupils will explore different ways to use line using a variety of simple media. Quality of line will be explored in both pencil and pen. How to use line drawings to record a quick impression of your object/theme will be considered as well as using mark making techniques to record detail and texture. Figure proportion and measurement will be included if students would like to draw figures or cartoon characters. Week of 26th September. Topic/theme- Colour. This week pupils will be encouraged to use some amazing ways to add colour to a piece of work. Pupils can bring whatever colours they have to the lesson and I will guide them on how to make the most of that particular medium. It could be watercolours or oil pastels, wax crayons or pencil crayons, each have different properties and produce different effects. Pupils may wish to bring a particularly colourful object/toy to the lesson or add imaginative colours to a plain drawing. Week of the 3rd October. Topic/theme- An imaginative scene. During this sessions pupils will be encouraged to draw their object/toy/character from a book in a particularly imaginative way. A dream scene could be considered, a fantasy landscape or world .... the scope is endless in this session. Any media can be used - the larger the paper the better as complex scenes and scenarios will be encouraged. Week of 10th October. Topic/theme- Cartoon Storyboard. In this session pupils will be shown how to create a cartoon storyboard. They will consider different options for a story which includes their chosen toy/object/book character. They will be taught how to draw different viewpoints and cartoon action pictures to create an exciting cartoon strip final adventure.
Learning Goals
Do you wish for an Art Club that caters for the individual interests of your particularly creative child? This Art Club provides pupils with the opportunity to create Art as an individual. Just like a real artists they will explore their own ideas and interests to achieve truly personal pieces.
Children can just turn up for one session, during which they can share their object, learn some new techniques and drawing skills and create their own artistic interpretation.
Alternatively your child may wish to turn up to several sessions. This will allow me to get to know your child. I can then tailor make each lesson to your child's particular interests, bringing them help and advice on techniques and materials to help them achieve their individual goals. This could include exploring the work of famous artists who may have explored similar ideas or demonstrating first hand how to use a particular media or technique which interests them.
Art themes which will be covered include but are not exclusive to:
How to brainstorm ideas and make independent creative decisions.
Planning out an effective and engaging composition.
Choosing appropriate materials and techniques.
Creating detail and interest - shading, tone, texture and pattern.
Make your drawings look more realistic- creating a 3D effect.
Techniques using different materials; pencil, pen, paint, wax, oil pastels, paint, collage etc as appropriate to need.
Evaluating your work and making changes.
and last but not least .....How to truly explore and enjoy your creativity !

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have many years' experience teaching Art to children from Early Years up to Advanced Level examination groups (age 18). All pupils are individuals and all love to create Art pieces around their own hobbies and interests. This is one of two Art Clubs I have created. Both have the same content and philosophy but cater for different age ranges. This way, pupils of similar ages can discuss and explore ideas and themes together. Teaching style as well as techniques and methods demonstrated will be adjusted depending on each student's age and ability.
