Class Experience

In this 5-day camp, students will get the opportunity to develop social and interaction skills through a variety of different games and activities.

This course will be divided into 1 week. We will meet every day (Mon.-Fri.) for 25 min. Students will be provided with all the materials necessary upon enrollment. This class is intended to be taught for a class size of at least 3 students, to create a more interactive environment for the students. If enrollment is not met, parents have the chance to choose to continue or to not continue with the course. An email will be sent to parents 24 hours before the course begins, to confirm their decision (this email will only be sent if the course does not reach the minimum class size).

Below is an overview of what our week will look like:

Monday - Name Game - Students will need to bring a blank sheet of paper and crayons/markers to class. Students will be given instructions on how to create their personal name tag. Once we are done making our name tags, we will play a game to learn each other's names. To start, the instructor will say their name and the name of a food that starts with the first letter of their name. The first student should say their name and food, then repeat the instructor’s information. The third should repeat the process with the second and first person’s information, and so on until the entire group has had a turn.

Tuesday - Pictionary Game - Students will receive a handout with a variety of images (such as animals, objects, etc.) Students will take turns picking an image from the handout (or they can come up with their own idea) and drawing it on their whiteboard or on the screen (Nearpod). While the student is drawing, everyone can take a guess at what he/she is drawing. If a student says the right answer, they get a point and we move on to the next player. Each player gets 25 seconds to draw. The game is over once everyone gets a turn, if we have remaining time, we will keep playing the game until class is over.

Wednesday - Scavenger Hunt - Students will receive a handout with a list of objects they have to find around their house. The instructor will start with the first object from the list. Students will look for that object around their house and show it to the teacher once they have found it. Students have 25 seconds to find the object. The students who find the object in 25 seconds or less, will receive two points. Everyone else who has found it will receive one point. If the student did not find the object, they will not receive any points. The instructor will go down the list until class is over.

Thursday - Trivia - Students will play a fun trivia game through Nearpod (an online student engagement platform approved by Outschool). Questions will include animal facts, movie facts, math facts, cartoon facts, etc. Students will get a few seconds to answer each question on their own. The faster they choose the correct answer, the higher the amount of points they will get. When we finish the game, the student with the higher score will win. We will then get a second chance to earn more points with more trivia questions. A 2-page handout will be provided. If we have time at the end of class, we will go over the questions that were missed.

Friday - Snack Time/Show and Tell - Students will be asked to bring a special item that they own to class. For example, students can bring their favorite stuffed animal, an award that they won, a gift from a family or friend, a picture of a good memory, etc. Students will get the chance to share their item with the class. After sharing the story behind their item, other students will have the opportunity to ask questions. The instructor will be the first to present, so that students can get an idea of how to present. The class will also enjoy snack time together. Every student must bring a snack to class (granola bar, cereal, fruit, cookies, etc.).

Materials and Resources:
Students will be provided with the necessary handouts and a list of materials upon enrollment. On Day 4 of class (Thursday) we will be using Nearpod. Nearpod is an online student engagement platform that I use to create interactive presentations for class. Students will be provided with instructions on how to use Nearpod (don't worry, it's very easy!).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Hope to see you in class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is May Dulce but I like to go by Ms. Candy! I have a B.S. in Business Management, 6 years of teaching experience and have a creative way of making learning fun and exciting! I am from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, born and raised!

I have been working on Outschool for over a year now, teaching finance, Spanish, and occasional arts and crafts classes. I have four years of experience working as a K-12 tutor for Grand Canyon University's Outreach Program, where I assisted students with homework, scholarship advice, as well as encouraged students and built up their academic confidence by providing positive feedback.

I am a native Spanish speaker and was a Spanish tutor for the four years that I worked at GCU's Outreach Program. I helped young students emerge into the beautiful Spanish language through fun and creative lessons.

I strongly believe that children learn best in an interactive environment, where they can actively participate during class and share their thoughts and ideas. I always encourage my students to use their imagination if they want to have a little extra fun in class and I do my best to bring academic concepts to life with visual and practical learning experiences.

Outside of teaching, I love to travel, make arts and crafts, watch movies, and bake yummy treats! I am also expecting my first baby this March 2022 and am very excited for this next chapter in my life!

Can't wait to meet you all in class!
