Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Let's have fun while we practice our reading fluency together! Acorn books are some of my favorites from helping readers become more confident and fluent! They will learn about different punctuation and how our sentences are spoken differently based off of the punctuation. They will practice reading sight words and short sentences to increase their reading ability. Learners will interpret how a character is feeling and give that character a special voice.

In this ongoing small group class, we will be introduced to a variety of characters, such as a Fox and Pig, Crabby and Plankton, Hedgehog, and Harry the Hamster. The learner will be assigned a role and we will enjoy the story together. I will share my screen so that they have access to the words. Learners do not need the book to enjoy this class!

We will read through the book one time to practice reading in sentences and identify unfamiliar words. Then we will do a quick review of words that we might not know how to pronounce or what they mean. We will also talk about the character and how to read dramatically. If there is a phonics skill a learner is struggling with, we will practice that skill so that they become more confident!

Learners will practice creating voices for their character, interpret emotions from their character, and pay attention to how different punctuation makes sentences sound different!

Finally, if we have time, we will read through a second time using fun voices and acting the story out!

Here is a list of the books that we may use in class. Learners will be given options and we will select books based on reading level and interest:
