What's included

32 live meetings
24 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Homework is recommended but optional. My best suggestion is that students simply continue working for about 30 minutes right after class ends. There will be a lot of class time for practice and completing homework during class, and students who choose to work outside of class can always contact me for assistance as needed.
Assessment
Every 8 weeks, you will receive a full progress report that lists where your Learner is in the curriculum, their strengths, their struggles, and any suggestions for improvement areas. On a daily basis, students are individually assessed in a one-on-one setting to determine their understanding. These regular assessments inform whether a student should move on, skip material, or be given extra practice material. They also inform the instructional method that will be used. Additionally, I have quizzes, unit assessments, and end-of-grade exams that can be used on request. I can provide report cards or letters of recommendation and I love helping homeschool families meet state requirements.

This year I'm offering 9 different time slots to accommodate busy student schedules! Students can join mid-year and pick up any class where they left off or even start a new subject from the beginning.

Weekly pay options are now available through Outschool!

For families who need more flexibility in the schedule, I can still accommodate your students' shifting schedule! If you choose to pay upfront, I will be able to occasionally transfer your student to a different class time. Homeschool schedules can be tricky! So I try to help as much as I can :)

What to Expect During this Class:

1. Personalized Assessment and Goal Setting
Upon starting with me, students are personally assessed in a variety of ways. We start with a conversation in which you provide me with as much information about your Learner and your Learner's math journey until now. Sometimes this is enough! Sometimes we will go further and include short, individual assessment questions, so we know exactly where to start learning together. You set the goal! Perhaps you want to review a class, prepare for an upcoming class, or simply learn a year of math.

2. Individualized Curriculum
Each student receives their own, individualized assignments each and every day. Not only do we start exactly where we need to, but each lesson, each practice session, and all homework is also custom-tailored to your Learner. No more busy work! At the start of each class, I review and check in with every Learner. We set learning goals, identify problem areas, determine lessons needed, provide extra practice, and even skip material when it's too easy!

3. Adaptive Lessons
Everyone has different learning modalities and different learning needs. Perhaps your Learner struggles with math and has always felt "behind", never able to fully understand concepts, and often feeling insecure with their knowledge. Perhaps your Learner has always sped through the material, feeling frustrated that they have to stay with the rest of the group when they are really ready to zoom ahead. Perhaps your Learner is right in the middle but now that big math classes like Algebra I are looming, you need some help with homeschooling. No matter the situation, one-on-one lessons in this class are designed for every Learner's needs. No more generic group lessons!

4. Customized Progress Reports and Assessments
Each 8-week session, you will receive a full progress report of your Learner's progress through their math class along with a personal invite to reserve your space in the class. Progress reports include how far through the curriculum your Learner is, their strengths, their struggles, and any suggestions for future learning that might be helpful. On request, full report cards, quizzes, end-of-course exams, and letters of recommendation can all be included. (I love helping homeschool families, so reach out to me for what you need!)

5. Consistency and Quality
I have taught this class consistently on Outschool over the last three years, combining my love for mathematics and my experience of 25 years with my passion for making it accessible to each and every child. I cultivate a true learning community with students and families. The times that I offer this class stay relatively the same session after session. I offer anywhere from 4 to 7 different time slots every single day to choose from. I understand doctor's appointments, changing sports schedules, and life events so rather than miss classes we always work out ways to make up the time. The schedule can be adaptive as your homeschool or traditional school needs change. Students can switch between class times when sessions re-enroll so their learning is uninterrupted despite schedule changes.

This means you can count on quality math instruction, day in and day out for your Learner in a safe, fun environment for them to succeed.

I can't wait to see you in class!

Learning Needs
This class supports all learning differences including ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Autism, Gifted, and Neurodivergences of all types.
Parental Guidance
Since we use Google Slides, a Google Account is required but is free to obtain. Students can be guided to get their own but a parent or guardian can use their Google Account if it is preferred.
Supply List
For online math classes, I recommend getting a pen and tablet device that will allow your Learner to fully participate in lessons.

Devices such as iPads and tablets have these built-in. However, external pen and tablet devices, also known as drawing tablets or graphics tablets, can be purchased on Amazon for as little as $25. The ability to write on the whiteboard using a pen device rather than a mouse is invaluable for participation in mathematics learning. Some of my students love working exclusively on the whiteboard during class to increase their learning and our collaboration!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Seney and I have been an educator for the last 25 years. I am incredibly passionate about teaching Secondary Mathematics as well as Integrated, Project-Based homeschool curriculum.

As a young adult, my teaching experiences began with Special Education in Southern California, where I spent two years at the elementary level. I then taught Computers for another 3 years before transitioning to teaching mathematics.

I began teaching math at the middle and high school level in North Carolina, USA. I am able to teach any grade level from 6th grade through high school Calculus. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in Secondary Education, and once held a North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Secondary Mathematics.

My professional training has taught me how to differentiate mathematics learning for a variety of learning modalities. I have teaching experience and specialize in working with students of all learning needs including gifted, atypical neurodevelopment, and dyslexia/dysgraphia. I have curricula development training in the fields of Integrated Learning and Project-Based Learning. I am qualified to teach personal projects that integrate every secondary subject including Writing, Literature, Humanities, Science, and a variety of Electives such as pottery, fine art, digital art, videography, and basic technology courses such as web design and basic coding.

After some time in traditional public school settings, I transitioned to teaching secondary mathematics in a Montessori setting at a Montessori Farm School in Ohio. My professional training in this educational field was invaluable as I learned how to use materials and visuals to connect the hand to the mind during mathematics learning.

I have the AMI Secondary Montessori Adolescent Certificate which includes the ability to teach all subject levels at a middle and high school level. The most important part of this experience was my ability to branch out and become a Secondary Generalist.

After 7 years in this setting, I used this variety of training and professional experiences to start my own curriculum writing and consultation business. I traveled around the United States, writing Integrated and Project-Based curricula for new middle schools and helping the administration train their teachers. My most recent professional position, prior to teaching here on Outschool, was as the Writer and Director of a new Middle School here in South Carolina.

During Covid, I transitioned to at-home teaching for the benefit of my own middle school students. I wrote online Project-Based curricula for them, developed digital materials, digital projects, and learned how to use Google Digital applications to teach and collaborate. It's as close to teaching in person as it gets.

On a whim, I chose to list some of my mathematics classes and curricula on Outschool and I fell in love. The platform itself is well managed but more importantly the connections I've been able to make with families, and the teaching I've been able to do is what I consider the best of my entire career. I am able to offer very specific classes that meet the needs of math students in a way I've always dreamed of being able to do! I transitioned to fully teaching on Outschool and have reaped the joy and connections with families over the last two years.

I believe the sum of these varied experiences has made me the teacher I am today. I view secondary students as the whole child, rather than recipients of a specialized subject. I approach each of my students as individuals, respecting and adapting to their learning needs and personal passions. I'm incredibly passionate about my mathematics teaching but also about my homeschool consulting and Project-Based instruction. Please make sure to ask me about both!

I hope to see you in class!
