Class Experience

There's a full moon coming, and it's time to journey through the stars with the You Be You Crew! Along with your fellow astronauts on your tinfoil rocket, you will use music theory to save our planet from the imaginary outer-space Glorbles, who turn the sound of all music into the sound of goats chewing! Yuck!
Designed to support a diverse class with many learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and music experience, this class combines beginner, learn-on-the go music theory basics with more advanced concepts that more musically experienced learners can model.
Through playful, engaging hand-drawn illustrations, humorous dialogue, and creative activities, students will enjoy working together through scales, rhythms, space songs, and songwriting challenges to make this mission to the stars a success!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
You Be You Inc provides contemporary, culturally relevant, and social emotional learning aligned music programming to students.
Through a combination of school programming, virtual learning, and group and private lessons, You Be You takes systemic approaches to empowering diverse groups of students to express themselves fully though the global language of music. Students receiving You Be You services are guided towards musical fluency in individual and community settings.

Music is a language. As a language, anyone speaking it, whether new or advanced musician, deserves to express themselves authentically, with words that feel true and leave the speaker feeling more understood by the world. Georgia English’s You Be You Music Room curriculum gives students the tools to “speak” music, taking a contemporary approach that moves beyond traditional music learning, and incorporates improvisation, composition, and music production.

The YBY curriculum is goofy, creating an environment where students learn through play and creativity, yet seeks to equip young musicians with the necessary music theory skills to communicate their inner thoughts and feelings through song. Georgia English hand-draws all worksheets, develops characters kids love, and supports musical autonomy in musicians of all ages.

About our Founder, Georgia English:
I am a deeply passionate music educator with over a decade's worth of experience serving youth globally. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music with honors in 2014 with a concentration in songwriting. I am currently pursuing my masters in Music Therapy at the Duquesne University to develop contemporary and culturally relevant mental-health informed music curriculum for public school students K-12.
I hand-draw all of my curriculum, developing characters kids love, to teach complex musical concepts that empower deep expression in young children. By presenting advanced concepts playfully, and in ways that do not impose solely a Western approach, my students are able to truly "speak" music.
