Hola! If part one of Comidas and Bebidas was fun, just wait for part two! In this week of summer camp, learners will practice how say new foods and drinks in Spanish. Although I’ve designed my classes to build off of each other, each section can be taken independently without prior knowledge of the others. If you missed part 1, no worries! We will be learning and practicing whole language skills. We will not just be learning simple vocabulary. This is full immersion, very little English will be spoken. Children will learn through body language, hand motions and props. Lessons will be short to keep from overwhelming the children and activities will change often throughout class to keep interest. We will play fun yes/no games, sing songs and watch video clips, and have a lot of rich language discussion. No previous Spanish experience is required for this class. Content is subject to change, but over the course of the week students will learn to say pancakes, oatmeal, bread, muffin, different kinds of sandwiches, hamburger, salad, and various drinks. They will also practice different sentence structures such as: “Let's eat”, "This is good/bad”, “Please/thank you”. Materials will be provided at home along with links to songs used in class to help students continue to learn at home. We will be using a program called Nearpod during class. This is yet another way to engage learners and encourage participation for those that are too shy to speak. It allows for learners to circle and draw lines to complete questions, which allows me to assess their listening, comprehension and overall learning. I promise, it is easy to use and does not require any outside accounts. Please note, young children learning a new language do not always speak right away. There are many reasons for this. The goal of this summer camp is to provide rich language exposure in fun and interactive ways while encouraging as much output as possible.

Hello, my name is Alyssa! Prior to teaching with Outschool, I was a public school teacher for 9 years. I have a dual certification in Special Education 1-12 and General Education K-6. I’ve been collectively teaching for 14 years.
Since resigning, I have homeschooled my own children, currently in grades pre-k, 3, 4, and 6, and have taught several local homeschool classes for grades 1-6. On Outschool, I am offering classes geared towards students ages 3 to 8. My specialty is in full immersion beginner Spanish classes and camps, but I also offer academic courses in English as well.
