Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This class is for students who have taken approximately 4 years of French, including 2 years of immersion French. Students will focus on one of the four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) each week, completing work in more complex topics. All of this will be done completely in French unless I have explained something several different ways and students are still struggling.

While some of the activities do build from class to class (we will be reading through a book throughout the year, and writing our own story continuously), I welcome students at any point of the year, and I will work with them to make sure they are following along.

CLASS LAYOUT

Each class, we will start by introducing ourselves in French. We will then dive into our skill of the week.

Speaking: Students will have conversations in the main room about a specific topic, answering questions I ask. Then, students will be given a related subject to discuss in breakout rooms.* Finally, each week, students will give a short spoken "presentation" on a pre-determined topic.

Listening: Students will complete a listening activity in the main room with everyone. Then, students will complete a listening activity or game in breakout rooms.* Finally, students will have a group dictation that I will read, and they will try and transcribe what I say.

Reading: Students will complete a reading activity in the main room with everyone. Then, students will complete a reading activity or game in breakout rooms. Finally, students will take turns reading out-loud as we work through Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Writing: Students will complete a writing activity in the main room with everyone. Then, students will complete a reading activity or game in breakout rooms. Finally, students will collaborate to write a story together as different characters.

*We need at least 4 students in order to run breakout rooms. All break-out rooms will be closely monitored by me switching between rooms to keep students on-topic and help when needed.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been learning French for 9 years now, from French 1 - French 5 as well as 4 years of immersion French classes. I am conversationally fluent and at a C1 level. I have tutored French immersion from May 2020 through August 2020 when the French immersion school near us closed for quarantine, and I've been teaching French online for two years.

I also continue to take French lessons with native speakers, and I am working towards my Bachelors in French, which includes classes in advanced French immersion, French literature, and French education. I attended a 7-week summer French immersion camp through Middlebury College.

I also have my certification in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the principles from which I apply to my French classes.
