In this self-paced, 8-week course, students will strengthen their reading comprehension and writing skills at a 5th & 6th-grade level. This class provides full curriculum for one semester of a 5th or 6th-grade language arts class. R E A D I N G O V E R V I E W: Students will read two informational texts in this class: “Bottlenose Dolphin” by National Geographic Kids and “This is Misty" by TIME For Kids. Reading skills taught in this class include: 📚 Examining text features 📚 Determining an author’s point of view 📚 Referring to the text when answering questions 📚 Using context clues to determine the meaning of new words 📚 Writing an objective summary W R I T I N G O V E R V I E W: Students will write two essays in this class: an expository essay that pairs with “Bottlenose Dolphin” and a persuasive essay that pairs with “This is Misty." Students will be given step-by-step instructions along with graphic organizers that will help them master the essay writing process.
