We will study the first half of third-grade English language arts. In reading, this includes mythology, the central message of a text, character traits and motivation in fiction, forming opinions about fiction and citing proof in chapter books. In writing, this includes identifying subjects and predicates, nouns and verbs, using simple verb tenses, regular and irregular plurals, abstract nouns, writing an informational essay and an opinion essay. In addition to these, we will study phonics to strengthen spelling and reading.

Our class will begin with a discussion, modeling from me, group work, and independent work. We will also play learning games, watch videos usually created by myself, and read books. Some of these books will be online.
Learning Goals
Reading: strengthen decoding, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
Writing: strengthen sentence and paragraph building through the use of various parts of speech.
