Class Experience

This interactive asynchronous 4-week course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about the food you eat. There will be NO Live meetings for this course.  Materials will be uploaded weekly for you to access at your convenience on Sunday.  

You'll explore how food fuels your body and mind, learn to decode food labels, and discover how to create healthy and delicious meals. Get ready to transform your relationship with food and feel your best!

Each week for 4 weeks students will be guided through a variety of nutrition topics with videos that have been pre-recorded, along with real-life activities, readings and much more. Students will receive a weekly lesson guide to help them review and complete assignments.

Lesson 1:
Foundations of Nutrition
 The USDA MyPlate divides foods into five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy. Each food group provides different essential nutrients. It is important to include foods from all five food groups in your diet to get the nutrients you need. This lesson will help you understand different food groups and their importance. 
Lesson 2:
Decoding Food Labels
 Food labels are packed with information but deciphering them can feel overwhelming. This lesson will equip you with the skills to decode food labels effectively, empowering you to make informed choices about the food you eat. 
Lesson 3:
Building a Healthy Plate
 Imagine your plate as a canvas for creating a balanced and nutritious meal. This lesson will guide you through the art of "building a healthy plate" using the MyPlate method developed by the USDA. 
Lesson 4:
Energy Essentials for Active Teens
 Being a teenager is all about growth, exploration, and pushing your limits. Whether you're on the track team, a dance enthusiast, or a weekend warrior, proper nutrition fuels your active lifestyle and helps you achieve your best. This session dives into the essentials of teen nutrition, empowering you to make informed choices that support your body and boost your performance.
